YMCA Parent/Child Aquatics

This is an introduction to the aquatic environment for parents and their children. The caregivers will learn basic aquatic safety and will be given an opportunity to bond with their child. This is a water adjustment class to teach baby to enjoy the pool environment. The children will be taught basic water skills such as kicking, breath control and body control (balance).

Water Exploration

YMCA Parent/Child Aquatics

This class is designed to build on the skills from the Shrimp/Kippers level and to encourage the children’s growing, but limited independence in the water. The children will be encouraged to make intended movement, such as kicking and paddling, in response to verbal and visual cues. Caregivers and children will have the opportunity to share common experiences, to socialize and to interact with one another. If the child is close to 3 years of age, the instructor will begin to prepare them for the pre-school level program.

Water Readiness

This exciting program is intended for children who have participated in Parent/Child classes and are beginning to swim independently either with or without the use of flotation aid. This class will gradually progress from Parent/Child to Child Only over the course of 12 weeks to help your child transition into our Preschool drop off swim program.

Water Movement

YMCA Preschool Aquatics

Children at this level will build endurance and learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance. Rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg actions are taught.

This class is part of The Pre-School Swim Program and is for potty-trained children. Levels are based on specific skills rather than age.

Water Acclimation

YMCA Preschool Aquatics

This level is designed for new and beginner swimmers, teaching them basic breathing, paddle stroke, and kicking skills. Students will be introduced to basic self-rescue skills. They will develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely enter and exit the pool.

Water Stamina

YMCA Parent/Child Aquatics

This level is for the advanced beginner. They are taught floating independently, flutter kicking, and paddle stroke. Focus is on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement.

Stroke Introduction

Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional safety skills and build stroke technique. front and back crawl stroke and breaststroke are learned.

Gym & Swim - 1's & 2's

Two of the most popular YMCA programs combined into one class. This program is designed to develop your child’s gross motor skills. Class consists of 30 minutes in a gymnastics environment, a 15 minute transition period, and 30 minutes of swimming lessons.
