Summer Reading

Taking a new book outdoors to read in a cool, shady spot is one summer’s simplest pleasures! We all know that reading is such a wonderful way to forget about everything happening in the world, remove yourself from a device, and just relax. And this is true regardless if you’re 3 or 93! Libraries are making reading extra fun this summer with their Summer Reading programs. From infants to adults, there is something for everyone in your family. There are reading logs, book lists, contests, events, prizes, and more. Check out details about your local library’s summer reading program below!

“The Great Darien Road Trip”. With programs for pre-readers, kids, teens, and adults, all ages can sign up to read together this summer. The more you read, the more entries you receive for a chance to win prizes! Sign up either online through Beanstack or in the Library’s courtyard during select “sign up sessions“. Check their calendar for exciting summer reading virtual and outdoor events.

“Tails and Tales.” Start your summer adventure and strive for 1,000 points! Earn points by reading, writing book reviews, and completing bonus activities. For every badge you unlock, you earn a ticket toward our Grand Prizes! The first 250 readers to reach 1,000 points will receive an Adventurous Reader lawn sign, and the first 100 readers to reach 1,500 will receive an FPL backpack! There are weekly prizes, too! Every Monday, we will raffle off 3 gift cards to Barnes & Noble. Readers who log their minutes read or complete the weekly activity badge will be entered to win.

“Reading Colors Your World”. This year’s summer reading program is filled with reading challenges, events, and boredom-busting activities for kids of all ages. Log your reading time this summer to earn books, coupons, and raffle tickets for great prizes. Greenwich Library, Byram Shubert Library, and Cos Cob Library have slightly different programs and prizes but share reading lists.

New Canaan

“Adventures Await at New Canaan Library”. Summer reading is here and there is something for everyone– all ages are welcome to join! “Imagine Your Summer”. We invite children of all ages to read anything, anytime and anywhere this summer! Help us decorate the library with sunshines as you read (or are read to) this summer! Keep track of your reading progress within the READsquared app or use a printable log. For every 100 minutes read, you can decorate a sun that will be displayed in the Library. Earn a cool treat from Shake Shake at 500 minutes. Read 1,000 minutes and choose a free book to keep from our selection of titles.
